Do you Have Fishing Pics
From Your Last Trip?

We want to see your fishing pics from your favorite trip

One of the trips I have been planning to do when I started to fly fish was to the Black Canyon for the salmonfly hatch. We started the trip by driving from Grand Junction in to Montrose and stopped at the local shop. Good thing we stopped because we found out the hatch was no where near where we were planning to hike in. We decided on the conservation area after getting some of the local patterns.

We stayed on the south rim of the Black Canyon that night and fished the east portal. The water was very choppy and the wind would not give up so it was hard to keep the line in the water. None of us were able to hook up but it was nice to try some new water.

The next day we drove north to conservation area and hiked down Duncan trail. It took us just about two hours to get down so we were on the water by noon. The best part of the trip was being 100 feet from the river and falling asleep to the sound of it. The salmonflies were everywhere and after changing out of my shirt I had a feisty brown of a Chernobyl ant with minutes! The fishing was good but the hatch was not far enough along to give us great dry fly fishing.

You are only allowed to stay for two days in the conservation and on the hike out we got some rain and hail. It was a trip to remember and we were already planning next one on the hike out. Next time I am hoping to have a few more fishing pics.

Here are some of my other favorite picture from this trip.

Tell us about your greatest trip of all time!

Tell us about the greatest day of fishing you've had. If you went across the state, out of the country or right in you own backyard. We want to hear it.
